TL;DR

A food truck digital menu board is a TV or outdoor-rated screen on your truck, driven by a small media player and controlled from your phone or laptop. With Fugo you build the board in Design Studio, put the items in a playlist, and change prices or hide a sold-out special in seconds — from the queue, not from a laptop back at the commissary. One flat per-screen price, any hardware you already own.

What a food truck digital menu board actually is

You don’t need a POS integration, an installer, or an IT person. If you can plug in a TV and connect it to a hotspot, you can run a digital menu board.

A screen

A TV or outdoor-rated display mounted in or on your truck. For long hours in the sun, a commercial or outdoor-rated screen stays readable.

A player

A small media player runs the board: an Amazon Fire TV Stick, the Amazon Signage Stick, a Google TV Streamer, an NVIDIA Shield, or any Android device. Fugo also runs on Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, Windows and ChromeOS.

Fugo

The software that builds the board and pushes changes. You design it once, then update prices or hide items from your phone.

Why food trucks switch from chalkboards and printed panels

Sold out at 12:40? Hide it at 12:40.

Tap once to hide a sold-out special the moment it goes. No one orders what you can’t make.

Change prices without a reprint.

Edit a price on your phone and every board updates. No trip to the print shop.

Photos sell better than words.

Show the dish, not just its name. Good photos lift add-ons and combos.

Same board at every pitch.

Your board looks the same at the festival, the car park and the high street. Set it once, run it anywhere.

Setting a start and end date range for a Fugo playlist to schedule a breakfast and lunch menu by time

Serve breakfast and lunch off the same screen

Set your breakfast board to switch to lunch at a time you choose, and back again tomorrow. One screen covers every service without anyone touching it mid-shift.

Building your board in Design Studio

Start from a food menu template or a blank canvas in Design Studio. Lay the board out in portrait or landscape to fit your window, drop in photos and prices, then keep brand assets tidy with the Canto DAM integration. Group your slides into a playlist and the screen plays them in order.

Sunlight, power and patchy signal

A truck is a tougher home for a screen than a café wall. Here is what to plan for.

Brightness

A home TV can wash out in direct sun. A commercial or outdoor digital signage screen is built to stay readable outside.

Beat the glare

Angle the screen away from direct sun and give it a little shade under the hatch. Position does as much as brightness.

Power

The screen and player run off your truck’s supply or a small inverter. They draw about what a couple of lights do.

Signal

A phone hotspot is usually enough. The board is mostly images and short clips, and Fugo only pulls content down when you change it.

Fugo screens dashboard showing online and offline status for food truck menu board screens across multiple trucks

Knowing the screen is actually on

Uptime monitoring tells you the moment a board drops offline, so you find out before a customer does. Recover a player remotely with a reboot or a remote screenshot to check what is on screen. Run one truck or ten from the same dashboard.

Running more than one truck

Pricing is per screen, so a second or third truck just adds screens at the same rate. No enterprise minimum.

Group your screens

Put every truck in one place and manage them together.

One change, every truck

Push a price change or a new item to the whole fleet at once.

Festival menu on one truck

Keep a single truck on a special event menu while the rest run as normal.

Uptime across the fleet

See which boards are on and which need a look, all from one view.

Beyond the menu board

The same screen can earn its keep between orders, too.

Loyalty and socials

Add a QR code for your loyalty scheme and show your latest social posts between menu slides.

Tomorrow’s pitch

Tell today’s queue where you’ll be tomorrow, so regulars can find you again.

Catering enquiries

Put a QR code on the board for catering and event bookings, straight to your form.

More than a menu

The same screen can run card-payment prompts and allergen notices. It’s digital menu board software that also covers restaurant and food service digital signage.

Getting started in an afternoon

Most trucks are live in an afternoon. Your account and content are backed by SOC 2 Type II security controls.

1

Mount your screen

Fix a TV or outdoor-rated screen in the service window where the queue can see it.

2

Plug in a player

Connect a media player like an Amazon Fire TV Stick, or use a smart display.

3

Pair it with Fugo

Install Fugo and pair the screen to your account in a couple of minutes.

4

Build in Design Studio

Lay out your board in Design Studio or start from a template.

5

Schedule it

Put your slides in a playlist, set breakfast and lunch times, and publish.

See it on your own menu before you buy.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a food truck digital menu board cost?

You buy the screen and a media player once, and Fugo software is billed per screen. Because it runs on hardware you may already own, most trucks start with very little up front. See the pricing page for current plans.

Do I need internet on my food truck?

You need a connection to change what is on the board, but a phone hotspot is normally plenty. The board is mostly images and short clips, and Fugo only pulls content down when you update it.

Can I use a normal TV as a food truck menu board?

Yes. Plug a media player like an Amazon Fire TV Stick into any TV, install Fugo, and you have a menu board. For long hours in direct sun, a commercial or outdoor-rated screen holds up better than a home TV.

Can I change the menu from my phone?

Yes. You sign in from your phone or laptop, edit the board or hide a sold-out item, and the screen updates. You can do it from the serving window, not from a laptop back at the commissary.

Can one account run several trucks?

Yes. Group your screens, push a price change to every truck at once, or keep one truck on a festival menu while the rest run as normal. You see uptime across the whole fleet from one dashboard.

Will it work with my POS?

Fugo shows the menu you build; it isn’t a till. If you want live POS-driven pricing, ask us on a demo about integration options.

What screen size works best on a truck?

Most trucks use a 32 to 43 inch screen in the service window, big enough to read from the queue without crowding the hatch. Portrait suits a tall single-column menu; landscape suits a wide board with photos.
