Android TVs, media players, commercial displays, and tablets all run the same Fugo Player app, so you can mix device types across one network.

Android digital signage FAQs

What android version does Fugo need?

Fugo supports Android 7.1.2 and higher. We recommend Android 10 or newer for the best performance — older devices need a couple of extra permissions enabled (“allow paint over other apps” and “energy saving off”).

Can I use android tablets for digital signage?

Yes. Fugo runs on Android tablets, TVs, media boxes, and commercial displays. For always-on tablet deployments we recommend commercial-grade models on Android 10+.

What file types and content can Fugo play on android?

Images (JPEG, JPEG 2000, PNG, WebP, SVG, GIF), video (MP4, MPG, MPEG, MOV, AVI), audio (MP3), and PDFs — plus App Store integrations, live web pages, and dashboards. Content is cached on the device for offline playback.

Does Fugo support multi-zone layouts on android?

Yes. Fugo supports landscape and portrait orientation and multi-zone layouts on Android. Playing two concurrent videos or streams in separate zones requires a high-performing device such as an NVIDIA Shield Pro or a Sony BRAVIA professional display.

What if my device has no Google play store?

You can sideload the Fugo Player APK. See the Android hardware directory for the full list of supported devices and sideloading instructions.

What’s the difference between android TV and AOSP for signage?

Android TV devices (like Chromecast with Google TV) are the easiest to set up thanks to Google Play. AOSP players offer deeper control and remote device management, which makes them the better choice for advanced, multi-location deployments.

Which android device should I buy?

For simple deployments, a Chromecast with Google TV or NVIDIA Shield works well. For multi-location fleets that need remote management, choose an AOSP player. Commercial Sony BZ or BRAVIA displays are ideal where no external player is wanted.
