LG screens come in two flavors; consumer and commercial. That's great! Now, how do you know which you have or which you are buying and what are the differences? Well, that may be a little confusing at first.

Commercial - webOS Signage

LG's product line made specifically for digital signage runs the operating system webOS Signage, which comes with features especially for digital signage. The hardware advantages of these displays include: higher brightness, longer operating hours and higher durability.

We support:

  • webOS Signage 4.0

  • webOS Signage 4.1

  • webOS Signage 6.0

Version 6.0 is latest we support and the one we recommend, as versions 4.0 & 4.1 are running software versions from 2018 - five years ago! However, you should be able to get most of your simple to medium complexity content up and running on these older versions just fine.

To see if your display is running webOS Signage go to Settings > General > System Information. You should see a mention of "Signage" and the a webOS version similar to the list above.

To check before purchasing, check your model number on LG's website. In the "Specs" section, the operating system should be listed. It's also good to double check the top left of the page where the sections are listed.

Please be aware that even if a display falls under the "Digital Signage" section, it may not be running webOS Signage

We have two guides for the setup of your LG digital signage screens.

  1. The first approach, which we recommend can be found here. This will give you the full feature set although the setup may take a little longer.

  2. The simpler approach here, however some features are missing from this method.

Consumer - webOS TV

Consumer displays usually come in the form of smart TVs. These displays are primarily designed for home entertainment, both in hardware and features, and therefore are generally built for playback sessions of 4-6 hours. This would be an issue if you plan for your signage to be displayed for longer periods of time. Furthermore, some features are simply not supported on the platform, for example seeing a remote feed of what's being displayed on the screen (which is useful for monitoring).

You can tell if your display is running webOS TV by going to All Settings > General > About This TV. Under TV Information, if you see a mention of webOS TV - the display is indeed a smart TV.

To check before purchasing, check your model number on LG's website. In the "Specs" section, the operating system should be listed. It's also good to double check the top left of the page where the sections are listed.

The setup is quite easy and all you need to do is download the app from the LG Content Store found on your TV's home page

A Fugo app for LG webOS TV is currently in development will be released to the LG Content App Store in the near future
