If your organization uses Microsoft Authenticator to login to your required dashboard, then you'll require a Secret Key from Microsoft to input during your dashboard configuration in Fugo.

This Secret Key is an alphanumeric code that essentially allows Fugo to act as a trusted user to access your dashboard.

This guide will walk you through how to get your Secret Key from Microsoft and use it to configure your dashboard with 2FA in Fugo's TV Dashboards feature.

What you'll need

In order to set up Fugo TV Dashboards with a Microsoft Account, you'll need the following three things:

  1. Service account: set this up inside your Microsoft account.

  2. Secret key: Turn on two-step verification and set this up in your authenticator app. Make sure all other verification methods are disabled.

  3. Authenticator app: Get a secret key that's generated by your Microsoft Account

How to configure 2FA in Microsoft to work with Fugo

This will consist of two parts:

Part 1: Get your secret key & set up the authenticator app

We'll break part 1 down into 3 sections, depending on how far you've gotten with your authentication app and your secret key:

I already have my secret key and authenticator app

I already have the authenticator app set up but not the secret key

You'll need to set up the authenticator app again & get the secret key in the process.

To do that:

1. Go to your Microsoft Account (or Azure Users portal) and navigate to your Security page.

2. Click on Advanced Security.

3. Turn off Two-step verification.

Continue to the next section: I don't have my secret key or the authenticator app to set up to set up the authenticator app again and most importantly, get the secret key.

You'll find yourself repeating some steps - don't worry - that's what you're supposed to be doing!

I don't have my secret key or the authenticator app set up

1. Go to your Microsoft Account and navigate to your Security page.

2. Click on Advanced Security.

Now we're going to set up an authenticator app:

3. In the Additional Security section, turn on Two-step verification. You will be navigated to a page with the setup instructions. Just click Next to continue.

4. On the subsequent page, select An app under Verify my identity with as shown below.

Then click set up a different Authenticator app.

Now we're going to get the secret key:

5. You will see a new page with a QR code. This QR code represents your secret key but don't scan the code just yet.

Instead, click I can't scan the barcode. This will reveal the secret key.

Copy and securely save the key somewhere. This is very important because you'll need it later to finish setting up your dashboard in Fugo.

6. Now you are ready to set up your authenticator app by either scanning the QR code or manually entering the secret key into your app.

πŸ’‘ Note: You can download any authenticator app on your phone. Microsoft and Google are the most popular and they work the same way.

You can bring the QR code up again by clicking on I'll scan a bar code instead.

Or, you can manually enter the secret key into your authenticator app. This will generate a TOTP (Time-base One Time Password) verification code.

7. Enter the code generated by your authenticator app back into the Microsoft setup page as shown below:

Now you're ready to complete the authentication app setup:

8. You can complete the setup by pressing Next.

When finished, you will be navigated back to your Security page - where you should see the confirmation that Two-step verification is turned On and that Enter a code from an authenticator app is Up to date.

Now, continue on to the next section (Part 2) πŸ‘‡

Part 2: Remove other ways of verifying user identity

You need to make sure that the only verification methods enabled on your account are:

  1. Enter Password

  2. Enter a code from an authenticator app

Otherwise, Fugo's Dashboard Recorder might struggle to repeat your login steps as your journey becomes unpredictable.

Finally, disable email alerts in the account, since you won't want to be receiving notifications every time Fugo logs in and snapshots your dashboard.

How to capture your dashboard in Fugo with 2FA enabled

With your secret key saved & 2FA enabled, you're ready to connect your dashboard in Fugo!

You'll need to follow the instructions for creating a new dashboard in Fugo & saving it to be displayed on screen.

You'll find full instructions for each dashboard service we support in the next section: More guidance connecting your dashboard.

For now, let's cover the parts of the process where you'll be prompted to set up your dashboard in Fugo using your 2FA credentials.

The first part of the process will be when you sign into your dashboard.

The Fugo Dashboard Recorder will launch to start the process of logging into your dashboard. It's at this point that you'll be asked to enter your email address and maybe asked for the code generated by your Authenticator app that we set up in Part 1.

Let's say you are trying to connect a dashboard and want to sign in with your Microsoft account that's enabled with 2FA.

1. Enter your email address and password when prompted to sign in.

2. If prompted, enter the Time-based One Time Password (TOTP) code from your authenticator app

3. Once logged in and looking at your dashboard, you'll take a screenshot of it with Fugo.

You'll find full instructions for that portion of the process for each dashboard service we support in the next section: More guidance connecting your dashboard.

For now, we'll skip that & cover the next part of the setup process where you'll need to enter a 2FA credential.

The second part of the process will be after you've screenshotted your dashboard, when you're prompted to enter your secret key.

After screenshotting your dashboard, you'll be prompted to enter the Secret Key that you generated and saved in Part 1.

You may alternatively see the red prompt Enter secret key under the Pass 2-Factor Authorization step in the Recorded Steps panel.

Click this and enter the secret key that you generated and saved earlier.

From there, you should be good to go!
